What is a Prayer Shawl?
The purpose of a prayer shawl is to give someone a tangible example of God’s love and care. The shawl is made of soft yarn so the recipient can wrap up in it and feel God’s arms around him or her. A prayer shawl is made with prayer. The maker of the shawl prays before, during, and after they work on the shawl. Sometimes we know who we are making the shawl for, and sometimes we don’t, but we pray for the person who receives it just the same.
Our Prayer Shawl Workshop
We meet on the fourth Monday of each month at 11:30 in the Fellowship Hall to knit and crochet together. We begin with opening prayer asking God’s blessing a guidance as we work. We share tips and experiences, and spend time fellowshipping together as we weave garments of comfort for those in need of strength while undergoing medical procedure, those in need of comfort after a loss, or those in need of peace and patience during an illness and recovery. All are welcome who would like to become part of this ministry. At the completion of each workshop, hands are placed on completed garments and the future recipients are prayed for.
As always, the most important thing you can do to help bless this ministry is keep us in your prayers. Share this information with anyone you think might want to participate or has an interest in donating to this ministry. To request a Prayer Shawl or Lap Robe for someone please come by the church office.
